GIJoe 071 coverG.I. Joe #71 (May 1988) – “Bailout” – Larry Hama/Ron Wagner/Randy Emberlin

This one continues from last issue, with Wild Bill, Maverick, and Crazy Legs having to cooperate with Zarana, Monkeywrench, and Thrasher to evade General Villavaca’s troops as they search the jungles of Sierra Gordo for their downed plane. Just to complicate things, they also have a bunch of refugees (who the Dreadnoks were using as hostages to force the Joes to help them escape) who need to be looked after, plus Thrasher has a broken arm and won’t stay quiet when Wild Bill is setting it. (Crazy Legs solves that problem by knocking Thrasher out.) Continue reading “G.I. Joe Reviews: G.I. Joe 71, G.I. Joe 72”

Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 13

Stargirl opening titleStars and STRIPE Part 2 – Director: Greg Beeman/Writer: Geoff Johns

This one starts just a few minutes before last episode’s cliffhanger, with a teacher at the school breaking up a fight between Isaac Bowin and another kid who was bullying him. Isaac took his mother’s advice from last episode and whacked the bully with his tuba, but any discipline will have to wait as the entire football field starts to open up under them. Yeah, the Injustice Society installed the satellite dishes for their mind-control plan underneath the school football field. Like all the adults in town, the teacher is basically catatonic from Brainwave’s mental attack. Continue reading “Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 13”

This one starts with Brainwave letting Icicle know that Courtney and her family are going to be taken care of (by Sportsmaster and Tigress). Brainwave says Project New America is about ready to go and helpfully explains it for us. He’s going to use the amplifiers they stole to broadcast a telepathic attack across half the country, reprogramming people to believe in the Injustice Society’s cause. Gambler will make it look like the signal is coming from Russia to give Brainwave enough time to brainwash everyone. He warns there will be a cost, but if the plan succeeds they can form their own nation with people who share their values. Continue reading “Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 12”

He’s taking a circuitous route through the swamplands in case some of Hun-ya-Di’s men are waiting along the usual trail. He only knows this territory through rumour, but is aware that a small contingent of Stygians live in the vicinity, lording it over some renegade Kushites they encountered there. Stargirl opening titleShining Knight – Director: Jennifer Phang/Writer: Geoff Johns

This one starts with Justin (aka Shining Knight) out in the countryside asking a farmer about a gallant white steed. The farmer apparently knows Justin and isn’t too fond of his rambling, telling him to get lost. Justin seems to be kinda out of it, almost like he has dementia, but the sight of an American flag makes him remember that he saw Stripesy at the school not too long ago. While pondering that, he’s almost hit by a bus … a bus that has Courtney’s father Sam Kurtis as a passenger. We see Sam has a locket just like Courtney’s and he heads straight for her house as soon as he gets off the bus. Continue reading “Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 11”

He was sent there from Harakht to bring a jewel called the Eye of Set, one of two that are exchanged any time one of the cities gets a new ruler.
