Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 8

Stargirl opening titleShiv Part 2 – Director: Geary McLeod/Writer: Paula Sevenbergen

This one starts with Pat driving his classic Buick at top speed (to the strains of the Cannonball Run theme song!) and crashing it into a light post. Obviously, he’s going to use the crash as an excuse for the injuries Courtney sustained fighting Shiv/Cindy last episode and has to crash the car for real to make it believable. Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 7

Stargirl opening titleShiv Part 1 – Director: Lea Thompson/Writer: Evan Ball

This one starts with a montage of the new JSA members doing various things: Yolanda’s working out, Rick is brooding (of course), Beth is singing karaoke with the McNider AI. Continue reading “Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 7”

Stargirl opening titleThe Justice Society – Director: Christopher Manley/Writer: Taylor Streitz

This one starts with football practice at Blue Valley High. The quarterback (and best player) is Artemis Crock, but she has a bit of a temper. When one of the defensive players hits her late she decks him and gets benched by the new coach. Later, Artemis’s parents (who were proud of her for decking her teammate) confront the coach and waste him when he refuses to back down from their threats. Did I mention that Artemis’s parents are Crusher Crock (who runs the gym downtown) and Paula Brooks (who’s the school gym teacher)? Of course, they’re also Sportsmaster and Tigress of the Injustice Society. Continue reading “Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 6”

Stargirl opening titleHourman and Dr. Mid-Nite – Director: David Straiton/Writer: Melissa Carter

Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 4

Stargirl opening titleWildcat – Director: Rob Hardy/Writer: James Dale Robinson

This one starts with a flashback to three months ago, focusing on Yolanda Montez. But this isn’t the surly Yolanda that we’ve seen in the past three episodes, the one who’s treated like a pariah by everyone at school. This Yolanda is full of life, running for school president, with a loving family … she has it all. Continue reading “Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 4”

Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 3

Stargirl opening titleIcicle – Director: Michael Nankin/Writer: Colleen McGuinness

This one starts eight years ago, with Jordan Mahkent (aka Icicle) and his son Cameron, watching helplessly as their wife and mother (Christine) lays dying in a sickbed. Jordan tells Christine he’ll make everyone pay for making her sick, but she urges him to forget about that and go on with his mission to make the country safe. Her reasonable side soon disappears when she tells him to destroy anyone who gets in his way. After she dies, Icicle goes outside to rage and freezes the entire garden, watched by his son. Stargirl opening titleS.T.R.I.P.E. – Director: Greg Beeman/Writer: Geoff Johns

This one continues straight from last episode, with Courtney running into Pat after her fight with Brainwave, and getting quite a shock since Pat is inside a giant suit of armour. He convinces her they have to get the hell out of there and she agrees. We see Brainwave come out of the warehouse with Courtney’s student ID, although it’s partially burnt so he doesn’t know who she is … yet. Continue reading “Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 2”

Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 1

Stargirl opening titlePilot – Director: Glen Winter/Writer: Geoff Johns

Welcome to my first Stargirl review. I’ve seen the first two seasons of this show but not the third, so I figured I’d do some reviews while checking out the episodes I missed. We start out ten years in the past at Christmas, with Pat (Stripesy) Dugan driving towards a mansion where the Justice Society of America are getting their asses kicked by their evil counterparts, the Injustice Society.
