Flash 327 coverFlash #327 – “Burnout” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Dennis Jensen

Last issue, Fiona Webb kept insisting her fiance Barry Allen had visited her in the hospital, even though her doctors said it was impossible. Fiona was right—Barry got in the building at invisible super-speed—but the doctors thought she was losing her mind. When Flash came to the hospital to get his hands bandaged, Fiona came running out like a maniac, yelling about how glad she was to see her beloved Barry again. Has Fiona figured out Barry’s secret identity? Continue reading “Comics Reviews: Flash 327, Wonder Woman 309, Green Lantern 170, Jonah Hex 78”

Flash 326 coverFlash #326 – “Shame in Scarlet” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Gary Martin

This one starts with Flash being booked for manslaughter for killing Professor Zoom a couple issues ago. The police station is surrounded by reporters going nuts for the story, but the cops keep them out. Captain Frye goes out to talk to them and ends up giving them shit for acting like vultures. Flash is processed, but the cops are pretty lenient, not making him take his mask off or give them his fingerprints. Flash 325 coverFlash #325 – “Dead Reckoning” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Dennis Jensen

This one starts not long after last issue, with Professor Zoom’s corpse being loaded into a coroner’s ambulance. The press are swarming around the church, talking to anyone they can about Flash killing Zoom to stop him from killing Fiona Webb. Flash and Fiona are inside the church, away from the prying eyes of the reporters, and Fiona thanks him again for saving her. Flash 324 coverFlash #324 – “The Slayer and the Slain” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Dennis Jensen

This one starts in Central City, where a nurse accidentally loses control of a baby carriage, which goes careening down a hill. Like the old movie cliché, there are a couple of guys carrying a mirror across the street and the baby carriage heads straight for them. The baby is saved at the last second by someone who vibrates it through the mirror at super-speed (which startles the guys so much they drop the mirror). Flash 323 coverFlash #323 – “Run Flash—Run for Your Wife” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Rodin Rodriguez

Last issue, Barry Allen proposed to his girlfriend Fiona Webb and they decided to skip the long engagement and get married right away. This issue opens with Firestorm and Wonder Woman discussing the hasty decision on the JLA Satellite. Firestorm is kinda pissed off that Flash didn’t give his Justice League pals more notice, but Wonder Woman says Flash is lucky to have found someone else he loves after losing his first wife Iris (in issue 275), so he’s entitled to do things however he wants. Flash 322 coverFlash #322 – “Burning a Speedster at Both Ends” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Dennis Jensen

This one starts with Green Lantern Tomar-Re preparing to leave the farm where he crash-landed last issue. The farm family have been very good to Tomar, taking care of him, feeding him, and even letting him use an old tractor to assemble a crude spaceship. (Tomar’s ring is out of charge.) Tomar heads to Central City to deliver the dire message the Guardians sent him to give Flash. Continue reading “Comics reviews: Flash 322, Wonder Woman 304, Green Lantern 165, Jonah Hex 73”

Flash 321 coverFlash #321 – “Hell in the Fast Lane” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino

This one starts with Barry Allen having a weird nightmare. He figures it was prompted by guilt over being in love with Fiona Webb. Part of him still wonders if he’s betraying the memory of his dead wife, Iris, but he can’t help the way he feels. He calls Fiona and asks her out for the weekend. At a prison upstate, an alarm goes out about an escaped prisoner … a very special prisoner. Continue reading “Comics Reviews: Flash 321, Wonder Woman 303, Green Lantern 164, Jonah Hex 72”

Last issue, the deadly vigilante known as Eradicator was revealed to be Senator Creed Phillips, who kidnapped his girlfriend Fiona Webb and is holding her outside town while Flash and the cops frantically search for her. We see Flash sneaking down an alley and breaking into a mirror store. Later, Mirror Master and a couple of henchmen return after a successful robbery to find Flash caught in one of Mirror Master’s traps. Flash 319 coverFlash #319 – “A Slight Touch of Death” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Dennis Jensen

Last issue, Eradicator was revealed as a sort of “alternate personality” of Senator Creed Phillips and he took Phillips’s girlfriend (Fiona Webb) hostage. Flash almost got blown up checking Phillips’s apartment and when Captain Invincible (police Captain Frye) came to help, they both ended up plunging through the wall toward the street. Frye slaps the shit out of Flash on the way down, finally waking him up with less than a second to spare. Flash 318 coverFlash #318 – “The Killer Who Wiped Central City Clean” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Dennis Jensen

This one starts with Barry Allen and Fiona Webb having lunch and chatting about Fiona’s relationship with Senator Creed Phillips. Since Fiona and Barry used to date, that seems a bit tacky. Speaking of Phillips, his butler accidentally discovers that he’s really the murderous vigilante known as Eradicator, so Phillips disintegrates the butler to preserve his secret.
