I just got my copy of Trekker The complete Journey today … great stuff. The book is huge, collecting every Trekker story up through Rite of Passage; it’s cool to see those early stories in full colour! As you can see below, Gulliver liked it so much, he pulled out all the subsequent volumes for a complete read-through. Kudos to Ron Randall for all the great stories over the years.
Episode 10: Show Me the Monkey
This one starts about six weeks after the last episode, with Mindy O’Dell coming to see Keith at his office. She insists her husband (Cyrus O’Dell, Dean of Hearst College, who was found dead at the end of last episode) didn’t kill himself; she says her infidelity would’ve made him morose and he might’ve even divorced her, but he’d never commit suicide. Batman #376 – “Nightmares Inc.” – Doug Moench/Don Newton/Alfredo Alcala
This one starts with a rich dude named Simon Platz, who brings his date into his mansion for a drink. Things take a dark turn when the lights don’t work and Simon finds his butler dead on the floor. His date is stabbed by a weirdo in a red cloak and then a bunch of monsters jump out of the darkness. Luckily for Simon, the whole thing is a joke; the red-cloaked guy is called Nightshade and works for a company called Nightmares Incorporated, who do elaborate horror set-ups like this to give rich people a few thrills. Nightshade and his two assistants (appropriately named Schreck and Lee) leave Simon and his friends to party, although I’m sure Simon will have to change his pants first. Flash #337 – “Beware the Speed-Demons” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Frank McLaughlin
This one starts with Central City’s mayor issuing a public statement about how he was controlled by Pied Piper. The mayor apologizes for talking trash about the Flash and promises to allocate city funds to rebuild the Flash Museum. That doesn’t go over well with Pied Piper, who was controlling the mayor to make Flash look bad, but now wants blood.
