Batman #402 – (No Title) – Max Allan Collins/Jim Starlin
This one starts with a young couple getting mugged by a couple of scumbags. Batman shows up to deal with them, but we soon realize this isn’t the real Batman, since he breaks the punks’ necks. That’s confirmed as he heads home and we see some other guy under the mask, who thinks it’s his mission to rid Gotham of criminals. Firestorm #53 – “Shades in Silver” – Gerry Conway/Joe Brozowski/Steve Mitchell
This one starts with Martin Stein being told by a doctor that he has an inoperable brain tumour and that he has eight months to live at the most. Stein has been having dizzy spells and headaches lately, which he assumed had something to do with his drinking problem, like some kind of withdrawal symptoms. Across town, a guy named Xavier Pervis taps into the city power grid to feed his natural ability to manipulate metal. The power boost lets him change large masses of metal, but he knows tapping into the city grid isn’t practical, so he’s built a suit that can gather energy from the sun. Xena and Gabi are fishing in the wilderness when Gabi reels in a dying Greek soldier, who tells them his unit was attacked by the Horde. Gabi has never heard of the Horde, but Xena immediately freaks, telling her they have to run. Legion of Super-Heroes #28 – “The Lost Hero” – Paul Levitz/Greg LaRocque/Mike DeCarlo, Arne Starr
This one starts with a handful of Legionnaires (Chameleon Boy, Dawnstar, Star Boy, Invisible Kid, and Timber Wolf) on a mission to Xanthu (Star Boy’s home planet), where they’re helping repair the huge orbit-beacon that guides incoming ships to land on the planet.
