Spider-Man Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man 17, Amazing Spider-Man 18

ASM 017 coverAmazing Spider-Man #17 (October 1964) – “The Return of the Green Goblin” – Stan Lee/Steve Ditko

This one starts with Spider-Man wondering what happened to the Green Goblin after their first encounter, which he says was “months ago” even though it was only three issues ago. Maybe Stan was still trying to approximate “real time” at this point. By a remarkable coincidence, the Goblin is also thinking about Spider-Man, preparing a new arsenal of gimmicks to deal with him next time they meet. Librarians Reviews: Season 3, Episode 7

Librarians opening title 3-7The Librarians and the Curse of Cindy – Director: Nina Lopez-Corrado/Writer: Gareth Roberts

This one starts with a woman sneaking into an estate full of weirded-out young people. She’s looking for her daughter (Lindsay)who disappeared a few days ago. She finds Lindsay but she’s just as whacked-out as everyone else, going on and on about someone named Cyndi who needs her to stay there. The crowd gets excited as Cyndi decides to make an appearance, although we can only see a vague glowing shape. Continue reading “Librarians Reviews: Season 3, Episode 7”

Spider-Man Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man 15, Amazing Spider-Man 16

ASM 015 coverAmazing Spider-Man #15 (August 1964) – “Kraven the Hunter” – Stan Lee/Steve Ditko

This one starts with Spider-Man breaking up a robbery gang who are still in the planning stage. One of the crooks gets away by quickly changing his look, which is easy for him since he’s the Chameleon in disguise. I’m not sure why Spider-Man’s spider-sense doesn’t warn him of the disguised Chameleon, but maybe he was so close to the other bad guys he assumed it was them setting it off. ASM 013 coverAmazing Spider-Man #13 (June 1964) – “The Menace of Mysterio” – Stan Lee/Steve Ditko

This one starts with Spider-Man committing a robbery … at least, it’s someone dressed like Spider-Man who seems to have all his powers. J. Jonah Jameson is ecstatic that he was right all along and most of the city believes Spider-Man has gone bad (with the notable exception of Flash Thompson). Even Peter Parker isn’t sure; he wonders if he might have a split personality and be committing crimes at night unknowingly. Conan Reviews: Conan the Barbarian 199, Conan the Barbarian 200

Conan 199 coverConan the Barbarian #199 – “Revelation in the Mists” – James Owsley/Val Semeiks/Geof Isherwood

This one continues from last issue with Conan and Kaleb fighting over Solaise. Conan now knows she has some kind of Demonic power and that she’s dangerous, but Kaleb (who was quite aware of all that) is still protecting her. As the two of them fight, the Devourer of Souls calls Solaise’s cat to him through a dimensional rift. Continue reading “Conan Reviews: Conan the Barbarian 199, Conan the Barbarian 200”

This one starts with Peter Parker pining over Betty Brant when he hears that Dr. Octopus is being released. He goes to the prison to ask the warden to keep Ock inside, but Ock has served his time (and the warden is more inclined to imprison Spidey for his temerity in breaking into the prison). When Dr. Octopus is released, Spider-Man follows him and sees him being picked up by … Betty Brant! Continue reading “Spider-Man Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man 11, Amazing Spider-Man 12”

Conan Reviews: Conan the Barbarian 197, Conan the Barbarian 198

Conan 197 coverConan the Barbarian #197 – “Stand” – James Owsley/Val Semeiks/Geof Isherwood

This one starts where last issue left off, with the old dinosaur rampaging through the town in response to Freja’s stupid attack on it. When Conan returns (with Red Sonja), he’s ready to kill Freja but Shapur reminds him that they need Freja’s army to fight against the Kothian emperor. Conan does have Freja put in irons. At Conan’s camp, Bahkt (who has been given the power to consume souls by the Devourer) has slaughtered the entire camp, including Sonja’s Hyrkanians while looking for Conan. Spider-Man Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man 9, Amazing Spider-Man 10

ASM 009 coverAmazing Spider-Man #9 (February 1964) – “The Man Called Electro” – Stan Lee/Steve Ditko

This one starts with Spider-Man swinging frantically through the city, ignoring everything around him in his haste (even inadvertently foiling a bank robbery just by swinging past). Turns out he has some medicine for Aunt May and wanted to fill the prescription as fast as possible. If she’s so sick she can’t live without a pharmacy prescription, why isn’t she in a hospital? Maybe they can’t afford a hospital stay. Continue reading “Spider-Man Reviews: Amazing Spider-Man 9, Amazing Spider-Man 10”
