Green Arrow 23 coverGreen Arrow #23 – “Kia” – Mike Grell/Dan Jurgens/Dick Giordano, Frank McLaughlin

This one starts with Green Arrow and Shado reviewing their performance against the opposition in the mountain monastery last issue. They came there looking for info on Shado’s son, who’s been kidnapped to force Shado to assassinate someone (possibly the American president). But Shado went a little wild at the monastery and killed all the yakuza who were there. Green Arrow tried to spare one, but he killed himself rather than be questioned. Last issue, Big Barda’s car was stolen with her Mega-Rod in the trunk. Barda, Mr. Miracle, and Fire tracked the car to New Jersey where they found the thieves dead and the Mega-Rod missing. They soon found out what happened to it when a street punk blasted Barda and Fire with the Rod. Continue reading “Comics Reviews: Justice League America 30, Justice League Europe 6, New Titans 58”

Batman 438 coverBatman #438 – “Turnabout” – Marv Wolfman/Pat Broderick/John Beatty

This continues the Year Three storyline that shows how Dick Grayson became the first Robin twelve years ago. Dick (who’s now Nightwing) is worried about Batman’s behaviour since Dick’s successor as Robin (Jason Todd) was killed by the Joker. Batman has become more brutal and emotionless, throwing out all reminders of Jason as if he was trying to pretend he never existed. Wonder Woman 33 coverWonder Woman #33 – “Secrets in the Sand” – George Perez/Chris Marrinan/Will Blyberg

This one starts with the Egyptian Amazons returning to their hidden city of Bana-Mighdal through an enchanted sandstorm, accompanied by Wonder Woman. Their new leader (Nehebka) has brought Diana to their sanctuary because she helped defeat Cheetah and recover their sacred treasure last issue. Diana was sickened by these Amazons’ bloodthirsty ways, but is curious about their artifact, which looks like the same girdle of Gaea that her tribe forged into her magic lasso. Green Arrow 21 coverGreen Arrow #21 – “Uchiokoshi” – Mike Grell/Dan Jurgens/Dick Giordano, Frank McLaughlin

This one starts with a shadowy group of men discussing what seems to be a plot to assassinate the President (and it’s strongly hinted that one of the men might’ve been involved in the Kennedy assassination). In Japan, we see Shado nursing a baby and practicing with her bow. Continue reading “Comics Reviews: Green Arrow 21, Green Arrow 22, Young All-Stars 28, Suicide Squad 32”

Justice League America 29 coverJustice League America #29 – “Nabu On In My Mind” – Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis/Ty Templeton/Joe Rubinstein

This one starts with Fire flying around New York, enjoying the feeling of freedom and exhilaration that comes with her new power-shift. Yes, as I’m sure all of you guessed, Fire can now turn her whole body into living flame like the Human Torch (who she’s almost mistaken for) thanks to the after-effects of the alien Gene Bomb. But she doesn’t know the limits of her new powers yet, so she heads back to the Embassy where Big Barda is waiting to train her and test those limits. Batman 436 coverBatman #436 – “Different Roads” – Marv Wolfman/Pat Broderick/John Beatty

This is the first part of the Year Three storyline, which tells how Batman first started working with the original Robin, Dick Grayson. The story starts in the present, with Batman watching a yacht belonging to a mobster named Jacobi. Various mob bosses have been killed lately, but nobody knows who’s behind the hits or why they’re doing it. Continue reading “Comics Reviews: Batman 436, Batman 437, Detective 603”

Wonder Woman 32 coverWonder Woman #32 – “Meanwhile” – George Perez/Tom Grummett/Steve Montano

As the title indicates, this issue deals with events going on while Diana is chasing down Cheetah to recover her stolen lasso and fighting renegade Amazons in Egypt. It starts in Themiscyra, where Hippolyte leads some other Amazons (including Penelope and Menalippe) on a sacred hunt, where the quarry serves as a sacrifice to Artemis. Green Arrow 20 coverGreen Arrow #20 – “The Trial of Green Arrow Part 2” – Mike Grell/Ed Hannigan/Dick Giordano, Frank McLaughlin

Last issue, Oliver (Green Arrow) Queen shot a kid who was aiming a paint gun at a cop, thinking it was a real gun. The kid lived and Green Arrow was cleared (since the cop also tried to shoot the kid and missed), but the judge gave him shit for being a reckless vigilante and Green Arrow’s guilt drove him to drink heavily. Justice League America 28 coverJustice League America #28 – “A Date With Density” – Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis/Ty Templeton, Mike McKone/Joe Rubinstein

This one starts with Fire getting out of bed and putting her costume on. She’s been confined to bed for a few days because of whatever happened a couple issues ago. They’re being very secretive about it, but I’m guessing her powers spontaneously upgraded so she can burst into flames like the Human Torch.
