Xena Reviews: Season 1, Episode 4

Xena title cardCradle of Hope – Director: Michael Levine/Writer: Terence Winter

This one starts with a king (Gregor) consulting a seer about the troubling dreams he’s been having. She tells him there’s a child in his future, but Gregor informs her his wife died in childbirth six months ago, so that’s impossible. The seer insists there’s a baby in Gregor’s future, who’ll grow up to take his throne. Continue reading “Xena Reviews: Season 1, Episode 4”

Xena Reviews: Season 1, Episode 3

Xena title cardDreamworker – Director: Bruce Seth Green/Writer: Steven L. Sears

This one starts with Gabi playing at sword-fighting (against a tree, which will be a recurring theme) until Xena catches her and gives her hell. Xena warns Gabi about fighting, saying the mere fact of having a sword in your hand makes you a target. Continue reading “Xena Reviews: Season 1, Episode 3”

Xena Reviews: Season 1, Episode 2

Xena title cardChariots of War – Director: Harley Cokeliss/Story: Josh Becker, Jack Perez/Teleplay: Adam Armus, Nora Kay Foster

This one starts with Xena and Gabi on the road, Gabi regaling Xena with a story about two people turning into intertwining trees. Xena leaves Gabi to scout out their route and runs into some villagers being attacked by ruffians. Apparently, the ruffians have attacked before (some kind of territorial dispute in the valley) and the villagers are pacifists so they can’t fight back. Xena title cardSins of the Past – Director: Doug Lefler/Story: Rob Tapert/Teleplay: R.J. Stewart

Welcome to my first review of Xena: Warrior Princess. I already talked about how I came to be a Xena fan last week, so let’s get right to it. I’ll give a brief synopsis of the story, then go into my trenchant analysis. (Yes, that was a joke.) Xena first appeared (as a villain) in three Hercules episodes and was supposed to be killed off. But the producers realized the character had great potential as a dark anti-hero struggling for personal redemption, trying to make up for all the terrible things she’d done in the past. Xena Preview

Xena title cardAs you can probably guess from the title and the image on this post, I’ve decided to make Xena: Warrior Princess the subject of my next TV review every Wednesday. Xena’s been on my short-list for a while now, but I’d hesitated to go ahead with it because there are a lot of episodes (134) and that’s a pretty big commitment, especially if I didn’t like the show. Luckily, the show is brilliant and I absolutely love it, so I’m happy to finally review it. My history with Xena is short, but rather interesting. Continue reading “Xena Preview”

Veronica Mars Reviews: Season 3, Episode 20

Veronica Mars S01 titleEpisode 20: The Bitch is Back

This is the last episode of the original run of Veronica Mars and it mainly has to do with Veronica trying to figure out who taped her and Piz (almost) getting it on. The story begins right where it left off last episode, with a bloody and battered Logan showing up at the office to tell Veronica about the video. Veronica Mars Reviews: Season 3, Episode 19

Veronica Mars S01 titleEpisode 19: Weevils Wobble But They Don’t Go Down

This one starts with Veronica and mac waiting in line to buy frozen yogurt at the Hearst Food Court. Veronica mentions Piz’s disappointment that she’s going to intern with the FBI all summer and Mac advises her to let Piz know that she’s just as bothered by the prospect of not seeing each other for months as Piz is. A blonde girl at the front of the line gets in some kind of trouble with her student ID and is hauled off by campus cops. Continue reading “Veronica Mars Reviews: Season 3, Episode 19”

Veronica Mars Reviews: Season 3, Episode 18

Veronica Mars S01 titleEpisode 18: Know What You’ll Do Next Summer

This one starts with Veronica and Piz (looking pretty cozy after last episode) studying together. Keith keeps interrupting to quiz Veronica on P.I. procedures, since she’s taking her private investigator’s exam tomorrow. Continue reading “Veronica Mars Reviews: Season 3, Episode 18”

Veronica Mars Reviews: Season 3, Episode 17

Veronica Mars S01 titleEpisode 17: Debasement Tapes

This one starts with Veronica and Wallace watching a Joan Crawford movie (for Wallace’s Film Studies class) and talking about Veronica and Piz’s big smooch last episode. Apparently Veronica kinda freaked out after Logan saw her and Piz kissing, so she took off. Piz called her (once) the next day, but she hasn’t heard anything since and wonders if Piz is pining for her. Wallace says Piz seems just fine, which isn’t quite the response Veronica wanted. Episode 16: Un-American Graffiti

This one starts with Veronica running into Logan in the cafeteria at Hearst. He buys her a coffee and invites her to a birthday party he’s throwing for Parker. That kinda weirds her out, since she’s still getting used to the idea of Logan and Parker dating.
