Conan 165 coverConan the Barbarian #165 – “Temple of the Dragon” – Michael Fleisher/John Buscema/Armando Gil

This one starts with Conan and Fafnir sneaking into a temple to loot some precious objects. Apparently the temple priests worship some sort of dragon-god and have been extorting and terrorizing the local populace, making them fair game for looters … at least as far as Conan is concerned. (Conan grabbed a mirror that’s missing a jewel in the handle and when the priests find the temple looted, they’re very relieved that the gem—a big diamond—is still safe in its hiding place under a golden dragon idol.) But when they stop at a stream, Conan notices the water level decline when Krylxxa crosses the water. Continue reading “Conan Reviews: Conan the Barbarian 163, Conan the Barbarian 164”

The punks are ready to kill him when a cloaked figure shows up and wastes three of them, allowing the others to run away. Conan 159 coverConan the Barbarian #159 – “Cauldron of the Doomed” – Michael Fleisher/John Buscema

This one starts with Conan in a gladiator pit wrestling a brute named Tonzhog. Apparently, Conan found himself without a horse and any money to buy a new one, so he figured he’d win a bit of coin fighting. The spectators aren’t expecting him to win, but of course he does. They pay him and as he’s leaving one of the spectators, a beautiful woman named Marielle, pretends to twist her ankle just as he walks by.
