GIJoe 154 coverG.I. Joe #154 (November 1994) – “Flying the Unfriendly Skies” – Peter Quinones/Ernie Stiner/Chip Wallace

This one starts at the airport with Roadblock running to make a flight. He’s headed to a big chili cook-off in Texas, which he figures he’ll win because of his special blend of extra-hot chili powder, courtesy of his grandmother’s recipe. Some Cobra agents at the airport recognize him as a Joe and do a little hacking to get him bumped from his regular flight and re-booked onto a jetliner full of undercover Cobras. GIJoe 152 coverG.I. Joe #152 (September 1994) – “Just Fade Away” – Larry Hama/Phil Gosier/Scott Koblish

This one starts with Joe Colson (the original G.I. Joe) being flown by Ace to Washington for some kind of high-level meeting. During the flight, Joe reflects on his last time in a supersonic jet and we get an extensive flashback to Vietnam, when Joe was still a First Lieutenant with Special Forces. Their hamlet was overrun and most of the team was dead, so Joe told the last couple of guys to take off while he stayed behind to blow the ammo bunker. Continue reading “G.I. Joe Reviews: G.I. This one starts with a team of Joes (including Duke and Roadblock) in space aboard the Defiant shuttle. They’re approaching a Russian shuttle in orbit and things sound a bit tense, but the Cold War was over by this time, so I’m assuming they’re just on some kind of diplomatic mission. GIJoe 144 coverG.I. Joe #144 (January 1994) – “Snake Eyes: The Tale Untold” – Larry Hama/William Rosado/Chip Wallace

This one starts right after the end of issue 142, with the Joes getting ready to leave Millville after pushing Cobra out. Hawk shows up and tells them Scarlett needs to go to the Pentagon for a debriefing and that Snake Eyes, Stalker, and Rock n’Roll are coming with them as security. On the chopper, everyone starts thinking about an old mission, specifically the one where Snake Eyes face got fucked up and he lost his voice saving Scarlett, a mission that’s been alluded to but never shown in detail.
