Flash 321 coverFlash #321 – “Hell in the Fast Lane” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino

This one starts with Barry Allen having a weird nightmare. He figures it was prompted by guilt over being in love with Fiona Webb. Part of him still wonders if he’s betraying the memory of his dead wife, Iris, but he can’t help the way he feels. He calls Fiona and asks her out for the weekend. At a prison upstate, an alarm goes out about an escaped prisoner … a very special prisoner. Continue reading “Comics Reviews: Flash 321, Wonder Woman 303, Green Lantern 164, Jonah Hex 72”

Last issue, the deadly vigilante known as Eradicator was revealed to be Senator Creed Phillips, who kidnapped his girlfriend Fiona Webb and is holding her outside town while Flash and the cops frantically search for her. We see Flash sneaking down an alley and breaking into a mirror store. Later, Mirror Master and a couple of henchmen return after a successful robbery to find Flash caught in one of Mirror Master’s traps. Flash 319 coverFlash #319 – “A Slight Touch of Death” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Dennis Jensen

Last issue, Eradicator was revealed as a sort of “alternate personality” of Senator Creed Phillips and he took Phillips’s girlfriend (Fiona Webb) hostage. Flash almost got blown up checking Phillips’s apartment and when Captain Invincible (police Captain Frye) came to help, they both ended up plunging through the wall toward the street. Frye slaps the shit out of Flash on the way down, finally waking him up with less than a second to spare. Flash 318 coverFlash #318 – “The Killer Who Wiped Central City Clean” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Dennis Jensen

This one starts with Barry Allen and Fiona Webb having lunch and chatting about Fiona’s relationship with Senator Creed Phillips. Since Fiona and Barry used to date, that seems a bit tacky. Speaking of Phillips, his butler accidentally discovers that he’s really the murderous vigilante known as Eradicator, so Phillips disintegrates the butler to preserve his secret. Flash 317 coverFlash #317 – “A Fast Way to Die” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Dennis Jensen

Last issue ended with Goldface beating the crap out of Flash and tying his unconscious body to an anchor at the bottom of a lake. Goldface gloats about beating the speedster and heads for the surface, figuring Flash is dead. But Flash has been faking it, holding his breath until Goldface left. He’s almost out of breath and still hurting from the beating, so all he can do is spin his body around at super-speed, hoping to pull the anchor loose from the lake-bed. Flash 316 coverFlash #316 – “Speed Kills” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Dennis Jensen

Last issue, Goldface came to Central City to take over the mobs and decided he’d better deal with Flash too. He started busting up the police station and when Flash showed up to fight him, he sent the speedster flying into an alley a few blocks away. Flash wakes up in the alley and zips back to the cop shop. This time he doesn’t confront Goldface head on; he uses his super-speed to hammer the armoured villain through the floor into the sewers, then tries to push him right out of town. Flash 315 coverFlash #315 – “The Eradicator Strikes Again” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Rodin Rodriguez

Last issue, a new vigilante (Eradicator) came to Central City and started killing criminals using some kind of eye-beams to disrupt their molecular structure and reduce them to powder. Eradicator ended up killing an assassin who was gunning for State Senator Creed Phillips (who’s currently dating Barry Allen’s ersatz girlfriend, Fiona Webb) and this issue opens with Flash finding the assassin’s remains and zooming up to the roof, only to find Eradicator is long gone. Flash 314 coverFlash #314 – “Look Upon the Eradicator” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Dennis Jensen

This one starts in a fancy penthouse, with a dope dealer paying off a distributor to move some product. They’re interrupted by a weirdo in a cloak who calls himself the Eradicator. He lives up to his name by shooting energy beams from his eyes, dissolving the two dope dealers into piles of goo. While his pet panther (!) prowls around, Eradicator goes on a diatribe about how he’s going to eliminate crime in Central City. This one starts in Central City’s slum district, where a drunk in an alley gets a surprise. An entity pops out of nowhere, evolves the drunk’s body into a futuristic form (which he christens Psykon), and pops back through another space warp. Psykon materializes outside Gorilla City in Africa. He fights his way inside, using his vast mental powers to overcome the super-intelligent apes, but ends up disappointed. The object of his quest, a high-tech prison cell, is empty … though the gaping hole in the wall tells us how the occupant left. Flash 312 coverFlash #312 – “Dead Heat for a Scarlet Speedster” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Dennis Jensen

This one starts with Barry (Flash) Allen calling his parents to catch up. Apparently he’s not satisfied with the next best thing to being there, so Barry changes to the Flash and zooms across country for some home cooking. He ends up staying the night. Meanwhile in Central City, Mick (Heat Wave) Rory checks in with his parole officer, a guy named Hobart. Mick has a job at a glass foundry, and given his predilection for heat, that might seem a bit suspicious.
