This one starts with Polar Boy doubting himself as leader, which he’s been doing a lot lately. He’s worried because a lot of Legionnaires (including most of the heavy hitters) are absent. His fears are justified when he gets a report of a jailbreak on Labyrinth. Apparently the Khundian Garak of the Glow (who we saw imprisoned on Labyrinth last issue) was bioengineered so the energy cells have no effect on him. Last issue, Magnetic Kid, Lighning Lass, and Tellus went to Braal (Magnetic Kid’s home planet) to help figure out what was causing some unnatural earthquakes. They uncovered a rogue Gil’dishpan named Hywyndr who was using his powers to create the quakes. This issue starts with the trio searching for Hywyndr and walking into an ambush. This one starts at Legion headquarters, where everyone is still reeling from Brainiac 5’s sudden departure last issue to return to his home planet of Colu. Brainy left a strange bio-construct to act as a sort of avatar for COMPUTO, but since it looks like a baby Validus, it kinda freaks everybody out. Polar Boy asks Dream Girl to be the new head scientist for the Legion but she refuses, advising him to stop relying so much on other people and figure things out for himself. As the title says, this issue concerns Brainiac 5’s trial for killing Jaxon Rugarth (aka Infinite Man) last issue by sending him to fight the Time Trapper, knowing they would both be destroyed. Polar Boy is the one who brings the charge, but Saturn Girl argues that Rugarth was already brain-dead, so he had no real life to lose. This one starts with the Legionnaires working together to figure out a way to pierce the time barrier and confront Time Trapper so they can make him pay for screwing with history and killing Superboy. Ultra Boy and Timber Wolf retrieve the Time Cube from the Institute, while Rond Vidar (who refuses to explain his sudden resurrection from the dead) helps Brainiac 5 wire everything together. This one starts with Sensor Girl confronting Brainiac 5, Saturn Girl, Mon-El, and Duo Damsel about the secret stuff they’ve been doing (which isn’t so secret anymore since they brought a white dwarf star to Brainy’s lab as a power source last issue). Saturn Girl points out that they haven’t broken any Legion rules, but Sensor Girl is adamant that their plan is wrong. Mon-El’s ready to fight about it, but they’re interrupted when all the Legionnaires suddenly keel over in great pain. This one starts with Duo Damsel informing Brainiac 5 and Saturn Girl that Tellus has uncovered their little conspiracy, although he doesn’t know Duo Damsel is part of it. Brainy mentions that Sensor Girl is aware of what’s happening too, but he’s not bothered by that since he’s completed his new “machine”, which they can test as soon as Mon-El provides a suitable power source. This one starts with some Legionnaires (Lightning Lass, Tellus, Timber Wolf, Quislet, and Magnetic Kid) at a broadcasting tower in the Atlantic. The tower caught fire for some reason, so the Legionnaires do damage control and rescue people inside. Tellus gets distracted and afterwards tells Magnetic Kid that there’s some kind of conspiracy in the Legion and that Saturn Girl is part of it … a fact he gleaned telepathically right from Saturn Girl’s mind. This is an extra-long anniversary issue, with guest art from Kurt Schaffenberger, Curt Swan, Dave Cockrum, Mike Grell, Keith Giffen, and Dick Giordano. It has a very nostalgic tone, focusing mostly on Lightning Lad (and Saturn Girl and Cosmic Boy) and a lot of it is just retellings of classic Legion stories. We got a glimpse of the overall premise last issue, with the three Luck Lords plotting something to do with Garth (Lightning Lad) Ranzz and this story starts with them still scheming.
