Well, that’s it for Season 1 of Stargirl. As I mentioned when I started these reviews, I have seen the first (and second) seasons of this show, but I had forgotten quite a few things. I like how the creators take stuff from a multitude of DC comics (All-Star Squadron, Infinity Inc, JSA), not just Stars and STRIPE. Continue reading “Stargirl Season 1 Overview”

Stars and STRIPE Part 2 – Director: Greg Beeman/Writer: Geoff Johns
This one starts just a few minutes before last episode’s cliffhanger, with a teacher at the school breaking up a fight between Isaac Bowin and another kid who was bullying him. Isaac took his mother’s advice from last episode and whacked the bully with his tuba, but any discipline will have to wait as the entire football field starts to open up under them. Yeah, the Injustice Society installed the satellite dishes for their mind-control plan underneath the school football field. Like all the adults in town, the teacher is basically catatonic from Brainwave’s mental attack. Continue reading “Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 13”

Stars and STRIPE Part 1 – Director: Toa Fraser/Writer: Melissa Carter
This one starts with Brainwave letting Icicle know that Courtney and her family are going to be taken care of (by Sportsmaster and Tigress). Brainwave says Project New America is about ready to go and helpfully explains it for us. He’s going to use the amplifiers they stole to broadcast a telepathic attack across half the country, reprogramming people to believe in the Injustice Society’s cause. Gambler will make it look like the signal is coming from Russia to give Brainwave enough time to brainwash everyone. He warns there will be a cost, but if the plan succeeds they can form their own nation with people who share their values. Continue reading “Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 12”

Shining Knight – Director: Jennifer Phang/Writer: Geoff Johns
This one starts with Justin (aka Shining Knight) out in the countryside asking a farmer about a gallant white steed. The farmer apparently knows Justin and isn’t too fond of his rambling, telling him to get lost. Justin seems to be kinda out of it, almost like he has dementia, but the sight of an American flag makes him remember that he saw Stripesy at the school not too long ago. While pondering that, he’s almost hit by a bus … a bus that has Courtney’s father Sam Kurtis as a passenger. We see Sam has a locket just like Courtney’s and he heads straight for her house as soon as he gets off the bus. Continue reading “Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 11”

Brainwave Jr. – Director: Andi Armaganian/Writer: James Dale Robinson
This one starts two years ago with Pat and Barbara’s first meeting. They were both in the diner late and ended up sharing a banana split and talking a lot. Continue reading “Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 10”

Brainwave – Director: Tamra Davis/Writer: Colleen McGuinness
This one starts a few decades ago, with a young Henry (Brainwave) King working in a lab and suffering from debilitating headaches. As he leaves work late one night, a mugger accosts him and Brainwave realizes he can hear the mugger’s thoughts. His fear makes his telekinesis kick in and he disarms the mugger, then uses his powers to kill the guy. Later, he goes home and makes a videotape about what he’s just done. Shiv Part 2 – Director: Geary McLeod/Writer: Paula Sevenbergen
This one starts with Pat driving his classic Buick at top speed (to the strains of the Cannonball Run theme song!) and crashing it into a light post. Obviously, he’s going to use the crash as an excuse for the injuries Courtney sustained fighting Shiv/Cindy last episode and has to crash the car for real to make it believable. Continue reading “Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 8”
Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 7
Shiv Part 1 – Director: Lea Thompson/Writer: Evan Ball
This one starts with a montage of the new JSA members doing various things: Yolanda’s working out, Rick is brooding (of course), Beth is singing karaoke with the McNider AI. Continue reading “Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 7”

The Justice Society – Director: Christopher Manley/Writer: Taylor Streitz
This one starts with football practice at Blue Valley High. The quarterback (and best player) is Artemis Crock, but she has a bit of a temper. When one of the defensive players hits her late she decks him and gets benched by the new coach. Later, Artemis’s parents (who were proud of her for decking her teammate) confront the coach and waste him when he refuses to back down from their threats. Did I mention that Artemis’s parents are Crusher Crock (who runs the gym downtown) and Paula Brooks (who’s the school gym teacher)? Of course, they’re also Sportsmaster and Tigress of the Injustice Society. Continue reading “Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 6”

Hourman and Dr. Mid-Nite – Director: David Straiton/Writer: Melissa Carter
This one starts nine years ago, with Rex and Wendi Tyler leaving Blue Valley in a hurry. They’ve signed over their house to Wendi’s brother (Matt Harris) and left him $50,000 to look after their son, Rick. Continue reading “Stargirl Reviews: Season 1, Episode 5”
