This one starts with John Stewart, Kilowog, and Salakk heading to the Pacific island where Hector Hammond was based. Hammond is gone, but they run into Dr. Polaris and his henchmen Dropded, Throttle, and Truk (who looks like a Transformers reject). Dr. Polaris was looking to recruit Hammond and assumes the Lanterns got to him first, until John corrects him. Last issue, the Guardians of the Universe took off to parts unknown with the Zamarons to start a new cosmic race or something. Before leaving, they told Hal Jordan and John Stewart they should both base themselves on Earth because Earth is destined to produce the successor race to the Guardians … in a few thousand years. Naturally, Katma Tui decided to relocate to Earth (since she and John are in love) and Arisia wanted to come along (since she still has the hots for Hal). This one starts on Oa with the Guardians of the Universe preparing to give up their responsibilities as galactic protectors and move on. Sinestro tries to talk to one of the Guardians, but he warns the villain to consider repentance instead off interfering with matters beyond him. The other Guardians give us a helpful review of what happened last issue with the three Green Lanterns of Earth: John Stewart (and Katma Tui) are returning to Oa with the former Guardian Appa Ali Apsa (or Old timer, as he used to be called); Hal Jordan and some other Lanterns are coming back after defeating Goldface and his alien pal; and Guy Gardner has gone to offer his services to Star Sapphire on Zamaron. This one starts on Oa, with the Guardians and Green Lantern Corps officially welcoming Hal Jordan back as a Lantern. (Hal got his ring back from John Stewart when John received Tomar-Re’s ring upon Tomar’s death last issue.) We learn that 912 Lanterns died in the Crisis (out of 3600) and fourteen of the thirty-six Guardians also perished. Last issue, Hal Jordan got a new ring from a Guardian and was told to help Guy Gardner and his band of villains in their mission to destroy the moon of Qward. Right after Guy and company left, Sinestro showed up to tell John Stewart and Katma Tui that they had to stop Guy’s mission. Sinestro explains that Qward is the twin of Oa in the anti-matter universe and its moon is the birthplace of the Anti-Monitor, just as Oa’s moon spawned the Monitor. Sinestro says if the moon is destroyed it’ll break the symmetry between the positive and negative matter universes, throwing everything into chaos. This one starts with Ares (the god formerly known as Mars) and Hades in the Underworld making a deal. Apparently, the Anti-Monitor has taken over the underworld and instead of fighting him, Hades has decided to ally with him. On Paradise Island, Wonder Woman makes peace with her mother Hippolyta, telling her she still loves her. But Hippolyta still despairs about the Crisis, believing it means the end for the Greek gods and the Amazons. Kore (aka Persephone) shows up to tell Hippolyta that death will bring no release. Guy is in his old neighbourhood in Baltimore, using the ring to demolish the tenement where he used to live. He heads out to sea to look for the Shark, who the Guardians have told him to find. This story takes place just before Ronnie’s graduation and Professor Stein’s move to Pittsburgh. It starts with some modern-day pirates robbing a tourist boat on the Hudson River. Firestorm tries to stop them, but his powers conk out when he makes himself intangible (not the first time that’s happened), which results in the Statue of Liberty being damaged. This one continues from last time, with Batman and Nocturna making out in the abandoned observatory. Batman’s still conflicted about Nocturna’s thieving ways, especially since she’s taken over what’s left of the False Face Society and made them steal for her. Nocturna’s rationalizations about only stealing from rich people and using the money to study the weird weather caused by the Crisis doesn’t completely convince Batman … although he doesn’t take Nocturna in either. This one starts in Commissioner Gordon’s office, with Gordon showing Batman a cat statuette that someone left on his desk. The statuette has a parachute attached, so Batman knows it’s a message from Catwoman thanking him for saving her life (in Detective 548) … and letting him know she’s back in town. Batman assures Gordon that Catwoman is a good guy now, but Gordon worries that another vigilante in Gotham might make the cops look bad, especially since the acting mayor is already looking for an excuse to get rid of Gordon.
