Xena title cardSeeds of Faith – Director: Garth Maxwell/Writers: George Strayton, Tom O’Neil

This one starts with a guy named Petracles preaching to a group of people about not worshipping the Greek gods anymore, instead leading their own lives without fear. Some of the crowd are skeptical and things get heated. Continue reading “Xena Reviews: Season 5, Episode 9”

Xena Reviews: Season 5, Episode 8

Xena title cardLittle Problems – Director: Allison Liddi/Writer: Gregg Ostrin

This one starts with Xena and Gabi stopping some looters (led by a thug named Galantis) at one of Aphrodite’s temples. Xena title cardBack in the Bottle – Director: Rick Jacobson/Story: Steven L. Sears, Rob Tapert/Teleplay: Steven L. Sears

Xena Reviews: Season 5, Episode 6

Xena title cardPurity – Director: Mark Beesley/Writer: Jeff Vlaming

This one starts with Xena, Gabi, and Joxer on their way to Chin. (I’m not sure when Joxer joined them; he wasn’t there last episode, so he may have followed them, or maybe they arranged to meet him after seeing the Amazons.) A half-dead monk stumbles into camp with a scroll written by Lao Ma saying that “The Hawk and the Dove must be made One with the Wisdom”. Continue reading “Xena Reviews: Season 5, Episode 6”

Xena Reviews: Season 5, Episode 5

Xena title cardThem Bones, Them Bones – Director: John Fawcett/Story: Steven L. Sears, R. J. Stewart/Teleplay: Steven L. Sears

This one starts with Gabi gathering mushrooms to ease Xena’s morning sickness. Xena starts having terrible pains and Gabi takes her to a healer. Xena has a nightmare about a skeletal baby bursting out of her stomach like in Alien. She wakes up in the healer’s hut and says they have to go see Yakut and the Northern Amazons because someone wants to harm her baby. Continue reading “Xena Reviews: Season 5, Episode 5”

Xena Reviews: Season 5, Episode 4

Xena title cardAnimal Attraction – Director: Rick Jacobson/Writer: Chris Manheim

This one starts with Xena, Gabi, Joxer, and Amarice travelling through some woods. Joxer is still hot for Gabi and his constant attention is making her uncomfortable, even though he swore there were no strings attached to his admission of love a couple of episodes ago. Amarice thinks love is stupid (and men are generally worthless) and says she’ll never fall into that trap. Continue reading “Xena Reviews: Season 5, Episode 4”

Xena Reviews: Season 5, Episode 3

This one starts with Ares banging a mortal worshipper named Mavican. She pledges her sword to his service, hoping to become his new chosen representative, like Xena used to be. But Ares tells her she’s not in Xena’s league (because Xena never asked him for anything) and takes off, leaving Mavican rather upset. Continue reading “Xena Reviews: Season 5, Episode 3”

Xena Reviews: Season 5, Episode 1

Xena title cardFallen Angel – Director: John Fawcett/Story: Rob Tapert, R.J. Stewart/Teleplay: R.J. Stewart

This one starts with Joxer showing up at Mount Amaro and running into Amarice and Eli. Apparently, he came because he was having nightmares about Xena and Gabi being in trouble, but the reality turns out to be worse when he sees they’ve been crucified. He vows to return their bodies to Greece. Meanwhile, Xena and Gabi’s souls are in the afterlife, where they’re taken up toward Heaven by some angels. But they’re attacked by demons (led by a demonized Callisto), who throw Gabi down into Hell before going after Xena. Continue reading “Xena Reviews: Season 5, Episode 1”

Xena Season 4 Geography and Chronology

Xena title cardWelcome to my geography and timeline review for Season 4. As always, this is my attempt to bring some continuity to this season’s episodes, trying to figure out where they took place and in the best possible order to make the whole thing flow better. As I’ve said before (in Season 1, Season 2, and Season 3) none of this minutiae really matters all that much (and my reasoning could be completely off), but I’m a continuity nerd, so I have to at least try.
