Batman #347 – “The Shadow of the Batman” – Roger Slifer/Trevor von Eeden/Pablo Marcos
This is obviously a filler issue and Batman doesn’t even appear except in flashbacks, so I’m not going to spend too much time on it. Basically, it’s about a couple of punks (one is named Barry, we don’t learn the other guy’s name) talking about robbing a bank. Flash #308 – “The Good, the Bad, and the Beautiful” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Dennis Jensen
This one starts with movie star Daphne Dean (who we’ve seen before in issues 248-251) having a dream about when she and Barry Allen were kids and used to play together. Daphne wakes up and heads into the Central City police station to see her old friend Barry, turning the heads of all the cops as she walks in. Justice League of America #201 – “A Hero for All Seasons” – Gerry Conway/Don Heck/Bob Smith
This one starts with a broken down dude named Joe Parry reminiscing along the Atlantic City Boardwalk. Parry once found an alien artifact (way back in JLA 31) that made his wishes come true, but he got greedy and ended up getting his ass kicked by the Justice League. Now that he’s out of prison, he’s cursing himself for not doing more with the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity he had. Superman #370 – “Better Vengeance Through Chemo-stry” – Len Wein/Curt Swan/Dave Hunt
I had this comic as a kid, although he story is only vaguely familiar. It starts with Superman in his Fortress putting the finishing touches on a replica of the bottle city of Kandor that he’s been building. Superman helped the real Kandorians find a new home (in Superman 338), so he’s put together this model to replace the real Kandor in his trophy room. Episode 17: What Matters Most
This one starts in a gated community (in Marlon, Ohio), which looks straight out of Pleasantville. A guy named Chambers goes out to get his newspaper and keels over in the driveway. At the boardinghouse, Artie tells Myka (Pete is still at his annual physical) about Chambers’ death, saying he had massive internal trauma but there’s no obvious cause. Batman #346 – “Half a Hero …” – Gerry Conway/Don Newton/Frank Chiaramonte
This one starts with a couple of prison guards taunting Two-Face about his incarceration. Two-Face says nothing and just sits there flipping his coin, but in between flips, he disappears. The guards mount a search and find tire tracks outside, but he tracks are over an hour old. Batman comes up with the solution to the mystery … Two-Face hypnotized the guards with the spinning coin, giving him over an hour to get away before they came out of it. Flash #307 – “Prey for the Piper” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Bob Smith
This one starts with a helicopter transporting a gigantic gong (from a tribe in the South Seas) to the Central City Museum. Pied Piper uses his horn to take control of the chopper pilots, forcing them to drop the gong on an unfinished building site. The gong bounces around inside the building’s steel skeleton, making so much noise it almost knocks the construction workers off the girders. Episode 16: Runaway
This one starts at Arkansas State Prison where a bunch of inmates are getting swole in the yard. Some white stuff starts falling from the sky and they think it’s snow at first, but it soon becomes clear that it’s ash. Part of the outside wall glows orange and melts away; naturally, all the cons run toward the breach but they quickly change direction when molten lava pours through the hole and melts part of the cement in the yard.
