Wonder Woman 41 coverWonder Woman #41 – “The Ties That Bind” – George Perez, Mindy Newell/Chris Marrinan/Romeo Tanghal

This is kind of a downtime issue, much of which is in epistolary form, the characters speaking through correspondence. Julia Kapatelis is on an archaeological dig in Turkey, looking for the site of the original Themiscyra. She gets a letter from her daughter Vanessa, who’s a counsellor at a summer camp (along with her friend Lucy). Continue reading “Comics Reviews: Wonder Woman 41, Green Arrow 31, Firestorm 96”

Xena Season 6 Geography and Chronology

Xena title cardWelcome to my geography and timeline review for Season 6. As usual, this is my attempt to bring some continuity to this season’s episodes, trying to figure out where they took place and in the best possible order to make the whole thing flow better. Xena Season 6 Overview

Xena title cardWelcome to my overview of Season 6 of Xena, where I try to touch on some of the themes running through not only this season, but the entire series. (I won’t link to individual episodes, since they can be accessed in the Tag Cloud under “Xena Season 6”). The main theme of this season was that of tying up loose ends, saying farewell to various characters (including Xena, unfortunately), and finishing off Xena and Gabrielle’s character arcs that started way back in Sins of the Past. Comics Reviews: New Titans 65, Legion 6, Suicide Squad 40

New Titans 65 coverNew Titans #65 – “Déja Vu” – Marv Wolfman/Tom Grummett/Al Vey

This one starts with Tim Drake going to see Dick Grayson, asking if he’ll train him to be Batman’s new partner. Dick starts by taking him to the park where they spend the entire day sitting across from a carousel. Tim figures it’s a lesson in patience (which is partly true), but when Dick asks him to describe every kid who rode the carousel in the last seven hours, Tim realizes the real lesson is about observation … and he hasn’t been very observant. Justice League America 37 coverJustice League America #37 – “Furballs” – Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis/Adam Hughes/Art Nichols

This one starts with Blue Beetle and Booster Gold washing dishes at the Embassy to make up for stealing JLI funds to open the casino on Kooeykooeykooey (the disastrous results of which we saw last issue). They’ve been on work detail for two weeks now and Booster is tired of it. Actually, he’s tired of everything: being stuck in the past, not getting any respect, and being constantly broke. He finally freaks out and leaves. Continue reading “Comics Reviews: Justice League America 37, Justice League Europe 13”

This one starts with Xena burying her armour (kinda like she did in Sins of the Past) before going to confront Morimoto’s army. Xena knows she has to die to have any chance of finishing Yosdoshi, but she’s going to take as many of Morimoto’s men with her as possible. Continue reading “Xena Reviews: Season 6, Episode 22”

Batman 446 coverBatman #446 – “Underworlds” – Marv Wolfman/Jim Aparo/Mike DeCarlo

Last issue, Batman went to Russia to stop a nutcase called NKVDemon from killing a bunch of government officials because he thinks they’ve gotten too soft with the West. Batman ran into the NKVDemon (who’s been enhanced to be superhuman), but he got away into the sewers. This issue starts with Batman staking out a likely target (Aleksey) at a hockey game with the help of a local cop named Krakov. Wonder Woman 40 coverWonder Woman #40 – “Divided We Fall” – George Perez, Mindy Newell/Chris Marrinan/Robert Campanella

Last issue, Lois Lane found out why some of the Amazons (specifically Diana, Menalippe, and Penelope) have been acting so weird lately: they’ve been influenced (or captured and replaced) by Eris, Goddess of Discord. Eris also had Menalippe serve Apples of Discord at the big feast, causing strife between the Amazons and the guests from the outside world. Comics Reviews: New Titans 64, Legion 5, Suicide Squad 39

New Titans 64 coverNew Titans #64 – “Scourge” – Marv Wolfman/Tom Grummett/Al Vey

Last issue, the Titans were attacked by some of the strange were-creatures they’ve been trying to find. Raven and Jericho were both wounded and the other Titans are worried, since victims of the were-creatures usually turn into mindless slaves. Starfire pursues the werebat who wounded Raven, but has to stop to rescue an innocent bystander, allowing the creature to escape (although she does blast a rapist, thinking he was the werebat).
