Wonder Woman #48 – “Fang and Claw” – George Perez/Jill Thompson/Romeo Tanghal
Last issue, Diana (aka Wonder Woman) and Donna Long (aka Troia) came to Greece in response to some shared dreams they’d both been having. Diana suspected Circe might have something to do with it and her suspicions seemed to be confirmed when they were attacked by a were-creature (reminiscent of the Bestiamorphs Circe used as pawns before). Wonder Woman #47 – “Common Ground” – George Perez/Jill Thompson/Romeo Tanghal
As you can tell from the cover, this story features Donna Troy (aka Troia) as a guest star. In post-Crisis continuity, Wonder Woman had nothing to do with Donna’s origin; in fact, they haven’t even met yet. Wonder Woman #46 – “Chalk Drawings” – George Perez, Mindy Newell/Jill Thompson/Romeo Tanghal
The cover pretty much gives away what this one is about: Vanessa’s friend Lucy Spears kills herself, leaving everyone to wonder why, and if they could’ve dome something to prevent it. The story jumps around in time, from Lucy’s funeral (where Julia wonders how to help Vanessa through this whole mess), to a few weeks ago when Vanessa and Lucy were hanging out and Lucy was preoccupied wondering what God might be like. Wonder Woman #45 – “Legacy” – George Perez, Mindy Newell/Jill Thompson, Cynthia Martin, Colleen Doran/Romeo Tanghal
This one starts with Harmonia asking the Fates about some strange visions she’s been having. She feels the visions are prompted by the talisman she wears and tells the Fates they have something to do with Diana (aka Wonder Woman) and Pandora. Harmonia can’t really see a connection between the two women, aside from the fact they were both created from clay, so the Fates show her the past. Wonder Woman #44 – “Caged” – George Perez, Mindy Newell/Chris Marrinan/Romeo Tanghal
Last issue, Wonder Woman was forced to surrender after Etta Candy and Maxine Sterenbuch were captured by Armbruster’s men. Maxine had come to Wonder Woman for help in getting her friend Silver Swan away from Armbruster, but Silver Swan is so smitten by Armbruster that she can’t see he’s just using her (and she shrugs off his abusive behaviour, no matter how bad it gets). Wonder Woman #43 – “The Armageddon Aria” – George Perez, Mindy Newell/Chris Marrinan/Romeo Tanghal
Last issue, Wonder Woman found Maxine Sterenbuch and Solomon Buchman going through Julia Kapatelis’s house. Maxine had some files on Silver Swan she wanted Wonder Woman to have, but Silver Swan showed up and attacked Solomon, then came after them. Swan went a little overboard, letting out a devastating sonic scream, but Wonder Woman managed to dampen its effects by getting her golden lasso around Swan’s waist. Wonder Woman #42 – “The Silver Wing of Terror” – Mindy Newell, George Perez/Chris Marrinan/Romeo Tanghal
This one starts with Silver Swan (who we last saw in issue 16) practicing her deadly attack on a Wonder Woman android. She practically obliterates the target, but her boss (Henry Cobb Armbruster) gives her shit and slaps her around because the face is still intact. You’d think Silver Swan would just waste Armbruster, but apparently she’s in love with him, so she takes his abuse and actually flies off crying. Wonder Woman #41 – “The Ties That Bind” – George Perez, Mindy Newell/Chris Marrinan/Romeo Tanghal
This is kind of a downtime issue, much of which is in epistolary form, the characters speaking through correspondence. Julia Kapatelis is on an archaeological dig in Turkey, looking for the site of the original Themiscyra. Wonder Woman #40 – “Divided We Fall” – George Perez, Mindy Newell/Chris Marrinan/Robert Campanella
Last issue, Lois Lane found out why some of the Amazons (specifically Diana, Menalippe, and Penelope) have been acting so weird lately: they’ve been influenced (or captured and replaced) by Eris, Goddess of Discord. Eris also had Menalippe serve Apples of Discord at the big feast, causing strife between the Amazons and the guests from the outside world.
