Justice League America 29 coverJustice League America #29 – “Nabu On In My Mind” – Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis/Ty Templeton/Joe Rubinstein

This one starts with Fire flying around New York, enjoying the feeling of freedom and exhilaration that comes with her new power-shift. Yes, as I’m sure all of you guessed, Fire can now turn her whole body into living flame like the Human Torch (who she’s almost mistaken for) thanks to the after-effects of the alien Gene Bomb. But she doesn’t know the limits of her new powers yet, so she heads back to the Embassy where Big Barda is waiting to train her and test those limits. Justice League America 28 coverJustice League America #28 – “A Date With Density” – Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis/Ty Templeton, Mike McKone/Joe Rubinstein

This one starts with Fire getting out of bed and putting her costume on. She’s been confined to bed for a few days because of whatever happened a couple issues ago. They’re being very secretive about it, but I’m guessing her powers spontaneously upgraded so she can burst into flames like the Human Torch. Justice League America 27 coverJustice League America #27 – “Mindsnap” – Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis/Ty Templeton/Dick Giordano, Joe Rubinstein

This one starts with Oberon going to Belle Rêve to tell Amanda Waller about Blue Beetle going nuts last issue and trying to kill Max Lord. Waller and Oberon end up getting along (since their abrasive personalities match) and he asks her help in figuring out what’s wrong with Blue Beetle and fixing it. Back at JLA headquarters, Beetle has been confined to Max’s room to keep him from harming anyone (or himself). Justice League America 26 coverJustice League America #26 – “Slice and Dice” – Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis/Ty Templeton/Joe Rubinstein

The title of this comic officially changes (again) with this issue, but I’ll keep referring to it with the same Tag to make searching for it on my site easier. This story starts with Blue Beetle on monitor duty and hating every boring minute of it. Oberon’s not happy either, since he has to keep reminding Beetle to pay attention. Beetle takes a phone call while Oberon goes to complain to Max Lord about his slacking off. Legion of Super-Heroes 58 coverLegion of Super-Heroes #58 – “If Thine Eye Offend Thee” – Paul Levitz/Keith Giffen/Al Gordon

Last issue, Emerald Empress was searching for the secrets of immortality and came to Earth to gather information. She ran afoul of the Legion and ended up taking Polar Boy hostage in the skies above Metropolis, threatening to destroy the city’s powersphere, which would blow the whole city to hell. Justice League International 24 coverJustice League International #24 – “The Road Less Traveled” – Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis/Ty Templeton/Joe Rubinstein

This one starts with Maxwell Lord doing a little soul-searching. Apparently when the Gene Bomb went off, it affected Max, which means he has a meta-gene. Having that gene means he has the potential to gain super powers given the right circumstances. But Max can’t help wondering if the sentient computer that manipulated him into forming the new Justice League (as we saw in issue 12) knew about the meta-gene when it chose him as a partner. Justice League International 23 coverJustice League International #23 – “Gross Injustice” – Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis/Kevin Maguire/Joe Rubinstein

This story takes place in the aftermath of the alien Invasion crossover. The JLI are still on the small Pacific island where they fought the Khunds last issue and are arguing about what to do with the crashed Khund ship. Mr. Miracle is worried about booby traps (or worse), but Guy gets impatient and picks the ship up with his ring’s force beam. Legion of Super-Heroes Annual 4 coverLegion of Super-Heroes Annual #4 – “Secrets Within the Star” – Paul Levitz/Barry Kitson, Bruce Patterson/Romeo Tanghal

This one starts with Dawnstar using her homing power to lead the members of the Legion Espionage Squad (Phantom Girl, Shrinking Violet, and invisible Kid) to Chameleon Boy, who infiltrated Starfinger’s criminal organization a while back. Phantom Girl found Cham while he was undercover, but backed off when he told her to. Now she’s feeling guilty and figures he might be in trouble. This one starts with Legion leader Polar Boy worrying about a few Legionnaires who have taken off for personal reasons and fallen out of contact. The rest of the issue is a series of vignettes letting us know what these “missing” Legionnaires are doing. Continue reading “Comics Reviews: Legion of Super-Heroes 55, Suicide Squad 22”
