Legion of Super-Heroes 28 coverLegion of Super-Heroes #28 – “The Lost Hero” – Paul Levitz/Greg LaRocque/Mike DeCarlo, Arne Starr

This one starts with a handful of Legionnaires (Chameleon Boy, Dawnstar, Star Boy, Invisible Kid, and Timber Wolf) on a mission to Xanthu (Star Boy’s home planet), where they’re helping repair the huge orbit-beacon that guides incoming ships to land on the planet. The beacon was damaged by a meteor strike, so the Legionnaires have to repair it and get it back into its proper orbit. This one starts with Projectra back on Orando, where the Council of Regents are offering her the throne. Apparently, her time with the Legion as Sensor Girl was penance and now they’ve decided she’s worthy of being their queen again. Legion of Super-Heroes 26 coverLegion of Super-Heroes #26 – “Illusion” – Paul Levitz/Greg LaRocque/Mike DeCarlo, Arne Starr

Last issue, a contingent of Legionnaires (Dream Girl, Colossal Boy, Polar Boy, and Tellus) confronted the new Fatal Five on Stratus, suspecting that mysterious Legionnaire Sensor Girl might have joined them. It turned out she hadn’t, but during the fight Sensor Girl was revealed to be Queen Projectra, who’d left the Legion after killing Nemesis Kid to avenge her dead husband, Karate Kid. Legion of Super-Heroes 25 coverLegion of Super-Heroes #25 – “Revelation” – Paul Levitz/Greg LaRocque/Mike DeCarlo, Arne Starr

This one starts with Emerald Empress addressing the new Fatal Five: Persuader, Flare, Caress, and a mystery member who apparently knows the Legion’s secrets quite well. I guess we’re supposed to think it’s Sensor Girl, since she left the Legion last issue, but all we see is a shadow. Meanwhile, the Legionnaires are searching for Sensor Girl, hoping she hasn’t joined the Fatal Five. Legion of Super-Heroes 24 coverLegion of Super-Heroes #24 – “Suspicion” – Paul Levitz/Greg LaRocque/Larry Mahlstedt

The main story in this issue is about the Legionnaires’ feelings about Sensor Girl and her identity. It opens with a number of them talking about her before realizing her powers might let her listen in on their conversation. (And as we see, that’s exactly what she is doing.) Out near Montauk, Wildfire, Polar Boy, and Colossal Boy are heading to the Legion Academy to investigate the disappearance of a student named Mentalla. (When they’re first discussing it, Wildfire says Sensor Girl disappeared, but I’m assuming that’s a mistake.) Legion of Super-Heroes 23 coverLegion of Super-Heroes #23 – “Back Home in Hell” – Paul Levitz/Steve Lightle, Greg LaRocque/Mike DeCarlo

This one starts with alarms going off in Legion Headquarters, bringing a bunch of Legionnaires running to Brainiac 5’s lab. Turns out it’s just Mon-El, freaking out and smashing up the place. Lately Mon-El has been developing an immunity to the serum he’s been taking for years to keep him from dying of lead poisoning (Daxamites being especially sensitive to lead). Now the serum has completely worn off and Mon-El is dying. Continue reading “Comics Reviews: Legion of Super-Heroes 23, New Teen Titans 21, All-Star Squadron 58, Infinity Inc. 27”

Legion of Super-Heroes 22 coverLegion of Super-Heroes #22 – “Dead End” – Paul Levitz/Greg LaRocque/Mike DeCarlo

This one starts with Universo hypnotizing some guy to go out and cause mayhem. After his new pawn leaves, a Science Police officer almost catches Universo lurking around, but Universo mesmerizes him too and we see that Universo has been masquerading as Vid-Gupta, the aide to Earth President Desai (and maybe Desai’s brother too, I can’t remember). This one starts with Brainiac 5 and Element Lad having a secret meeting in the transport tubes that pass right through the Earth. Brainy is worried about Sensor Girl and thinks her reluctance to reveal her true identity could be dangerous. Element Lad disagrees and has decided to trust Sensor Girl, since Saturn Girl vouched for her. Brainy still isn’t convinced, but can’t change Element Lad’s mind. Last issue, five Legionnaires (Ultra Boy, Phantom Girl, Shrinking Violet, Chameleon Boy, and Element Lad) were taken across the galaxy by a Controller to help stop Tyrraz, a Death Star-type planet that’s about to start obliterating worlds. This Controller was trying to eliminate Tyrraz before by using a Sun-Eater, but these particular Legionnaires destroyed it, so the Controller figures they should help him destroy Tyrraz now. Legion of Super-Heroes 19 coverLegion of Super-Heroes #19 – “No Good Deed Goes Unpunished” – Paul Levitz/Greg Larocque/Larry Mahlstedt

This one starts on Manna-5, a planet that’s recently experienced some damaging tidal waves. Ultra Boy, Phantom Girl, and Colossal Boy are there to help the victims and prevent any more tsunamis. Everything’s going fine until Phantom Girl and Ultra Boy suddenly vanish. Colossal Boy calls headquarters, where Timber Wolf and Blok are on monitor duty. They summon Element Lad, but before he can figure out what to do, he vanishes as well.
