New Titans 63 coverNew Titans #63 – “Into the Darkness” – Marv Wolfman/Tom Grummett/Bob McLeod

This one starts with Deathstroke (aka Terminator) breaking into Gar (Changeling) Logan’s room and holding a knife to his throat. Deathstroke isn’t there to threaten Gar, just to let him know that he has reasons for trying to kill Lanier and his lycanthropic friends (as we saw last issue). Gar tells the rest of the Titans, who are at the hospital where Troia is recovering from a lycanthrope attack. Continue reading “Comics Reviews: New Titans 63, Legion 4, Suicide Squad 38”

New Titans 62 coverNew Titans #62 – “Titan Plague” – Marv Wolfman/Tom Grummett/Al Vey

This one starts with the Titans (Troia, Raven, Jericho, Speedy, Starfire, and Cyborg) wading through the sewers looking for some mysterious beasts that have been killing people in a particularly grisly way. They get ambushed by the beasts (which kinda look like werewolves) and they soon find themselves in trouble. Continue reading “Comics Reviews: New Titans 62, Legion 3, Suicide Squad 37”

Green Arrow 27 coverGreen Arrow #27 – “Enter …” – Mike Grell/Dan Jurgens/Dick Giordano, Frank McLaughlin

This one starts with Oliver (Green Arrow) Queen hanging out in a dive bar. Some punk recognizes him and pulls a knife, pissed off that Green Arrow sent him to prison a while back. Arrow leaves the punk with his hand pinned to the bar with his own knife and heads home. Dinah (Black Canary) Lance bandages up a wound on Ollie’s shoulder (although I’m not sure if he got the wound in the bar fight, or if it was something he already had). This one continues from last issue, with Oliver (Green Arrow) Queen still in the pub. The innkeeper tells him he shouldn’t stir up trouble by investigating Hawthorne’s death. He tells Oliver how Hawthorne’s daughter-in-law got into witchcraft after her husband died, and how it drove her to a premature death. Now Hawthorne’s granddaughter (Rowan) has followed in her mother’s footsteps and gotten into the whole “magic” thing. This one starts at a graveyard in a forest, where a woman is enacting some kind of ritual with a baby. Green Arrow 23 coverGreen Arrow #23 – “Kia” – Mike Grell/Dan Jurgens/Dick Giordano, Frank McLaughlin

This one starts with Green Arrow and Shado reviewing their performance against the opposition in the mountain monastery last issue. They came there looking for info on Shado’s son, who’s been kidnapped to force Shado to assassinate someone (possibly the American president). But Shado went a little wild at the monastery and killed all the yakuza who were there. Green Arrow tried to spare one, but he killed himself rather than be questioned. This one starts with a shadowy group of men discussing what seems to be a plot to assassinate the President (and it’s strongly hinted that one of the men might’ve been involved in the Kennedy assassination). In Japan, we see Shado nursing a baby and practicing with her bow. Continue reading “Comics Reviews: Green Arrow 21, Green Arrow 22, Young All-Stars 28, Suicide Squad 32”

Last issue, Oliver (Green Arrow) Queen shot a kid who was aiming a paint gun at a cop, thinking it was a real gun. The kid lived and Green Arrow was cleared (since the cop also tried to shoot the kid and missed), but the judge gave him shit for being a reckless vigilante and Green Arrow’s guilt drove him to drink heavily. Egan is close to retirement and gives his young partner the benefit of his experience, telling him how to handle various situations. They get a call about armed individuals across town and go to check it out. Egan heads down an alley to see what’s going on, unaware that Green Arrow is on the roof above him. Last issue, a biker calling himself the Horseman came to Seattle looking for a red-headed stripper named Dawn, busting up various strip clubs looking for her. Dawn ended up being beaten to death and crucified, but the Horseman doesn’t know that yet, so he’s still smashing up strip clubs looking for her.
