Stargirl Season 1 Overview

Stargirl opening titleWell, that’s it for Season 1 of Stargirl. As I mentioned when I started these reviews, I have seen the first (and second) seasons of this show, but I had forgotten quite a few things. I like how the creators take stuff from a multitude of DC comics (All-Star Squadron, Infinity Inc, JSA), not just Stars and STRIPE. It’s cool to see Courtney building her own team of JSAers to combat the Injustice Society. An obvious difference between the heroes and villains isextended family photo that the heroes end up becoming like family to each other, while the villains can’t help disagreeing and jockeying for power … when they’re not actually killing each other. I think the overall theme of the first season is family, not only with Pat, Barbara, Courtney, and Mike learning to love each other, but with Yolanda, Beth, and Rick as well. The JSA kinda becomes their surrogate family, since none of their real family situations is what you would call ideal.

I’m really looking forward to the second season, some of which I recall (vaguely), but most of which I’ve forgotten. I know Shade plays a big part, but I’ve forgotten what happens with Cindy and the Eclipso gem, so I’m eager to see that play out. I also don’t remember much about Sylvester and how he’s still alive; did he fake his death, and if so, was Pat in on it? Pat seemed to genuinely believe Sylvester was dead, but maybe he was justStargirl and STRIPE on the water tower faking it? And what’ll happen if Sylvester wants the Staff back? It’s definitely bonded with Courtney, but Sylvester had it for a long time, so who knows what it’ll do if he comes back. I’m also looking forward to seeing what happens with the other three JSA members. Yolanda has killed someone and although she’s obviously bothered by it, she might get more bloodthirsty now … or she might get more timid, not wanting to kill again. I vaguely recall something of what happens with Beth and the McNider AI, and I seem to remember some stuff with Rick and Solomon Grundy, but I’m looking forward to filling in the gaps in my memory. I hope you’ll join me as I start Season 2 next week.
