Last issue, we were promised a big bombshell at Flash’s trial and as this story opens, we find out what it is: the manslaughter charge against Flash has been dropped. Don’t celebrate yet … the charge has actually been amended to one of second-degree murder since the prosecution now contends that Flash killed Professor Zoom willfully not accidentally. Flash’s lawyer (Cecile Horton) tried to get the new charge dismissed, but couldn’t, and she had no way to let Flash know since he was incommunicado (being held captive by Big Sir). Flash #340 – “Reach Out and Waste Someone” – Cary Bates/Carmine Infantino/Frank McLaughlin

Last issue, a number of Flash’s Rogues set him up by convincing a dimwit named Dufus that Flash had killed his pet mouse. The Rogues equipped Dufus with some high-tech weapons and armour, dubbing him Big Sir. Big Sir found Flash and knocked him out before dragging him out into the country to finish him off. The Rogues celebrate the success of their plan by slapping around some cops and taking off to commit some major crimes.

Last issue, five Rogues (Captain Boomerang, Captain Cold, Weather Wizard, Trickster, and Mirror Master) broke a huge dude named Dufus Ratchet out of the mental hospital and outfitted him in high-tech armour (obtained from the Monitor). The Rogues are setting Dufus (now named Big Sir) up to go after the Flash, to avenge Flash’s defeat of their fellow Rogue Pied Piper, which left Piper mentally unstable (well, more than usual). Last issue, pied Piper used his ultimate weapon to summon what he calls “Speed Demons”, extra-dimensional creatures that move at super-speed. The Speed Demons surrounded Flash, paralyzing him and pulling him toward some power lines. Flash can’t move his extremities, but he still manages to start spinning at super-speed, tossing the Speed Demons off his body and into the power lines. The Demons are disintegrated, but the power lines break and Flash gets feeling back in his legs just in time to avoid getting fried. This one starts with Central City’s mayor issuing a public statement about how he was controlled by Pied Piper. The mayor apologizes for talking trash about the Flash and promises to allocate city funds to rebuild the Flash Museum. That doesn’t go over well with Pied Piper, who was controlling the mayor to make Flash look bad, but now wants blood. Last issue, two crooks were hired anonymously (through a tape recording) to blow up the mountain house of Cecile Horton, Flash’s lawyer. A tabloid reporter and his assistant were planting bugs in the house at the time of the explosion, but the reporter survives. Flash is still talking to the mayor (whose life he saved last issue) and learns that the mayor’s recent bad-mouthing of Flash wasn’t his idea. Flash finds the micro-transmitter in the mayor’s ear and figures out who is probably behind it. Last issue, Flash got wind of a bomb planted under the desk of evening news anchor Rick Trent and rushed to the studio to find it, smashing Trent’s desk to splinters. Unfortunately, there is no bomb and it looks like Flash just came in and trashed Trent’s desk on live TV for no reason. Before he can explain, the news cuts to commercial and people around Central City react, some assuming Flash had good reason for his outburst, while others are skeptical. This one starts with famous lawyer N.D. Redik reading a tabloid story about Flash being romantically involved with his new attorney, Cecile Horton. Little does Redik know, Cecile told Flash last issue that she hates him and everything he stands for and only took his case as a favour to her injured law partner. Meanwhile, Pied Piper lures a prominent hairdresser into an alley and puts him to sleep so he can take the guy’s place at his next appointment … with the mayor of Central City. This one starts with a trio of vandals (led by an old dude) sneaking into the Flash Museum to cause trouble. The curator, Dexter Myles, calls the cops and confronts the vandals, who knock him out. They set the place on fire before taking off. A cop shows up with Detective frank Curtis in tow. Frank heads into the inferno to look for Dexter while the officer calls it in. At Peter Farley’s place, Flash talks to Peter’s law partner (Cecile Horton), who has agreed to take over Flash’s manslaughter case after Peter was injured by a bomb last issue. Last issue, Flash was in Florida talking to his lawyer (Peter Farley) on the phone when a bomb went off in Farley’s office. Flash zooms back to Central City at top speed, hoping he can get there in time to save Farley from an explosion he’s already heard happen. Even though it sounds physically impossible, Flash does get back in time to save Farley from being killed, although he’s in critical condition.
