Last issue, Diana was ambushed by Eris (Goddess of Discord) who had already taken over Menalippe and Penelope. Eris wants to sow chaos on Paradise Island for the guests from the outside world and she’s off to a pretty good start, replacing the three Amazons with simulacra and using them to stir up trouble. Kooeykooeykooey is strategically located, so the Americans and Russians both want to set up bases there. Herb thinks that the natives can keep the great powers away and preserve their idyllic way of life by offering their island to the Justice League. Diana has arranged for Hermes to bring some representatives from the United Nations to Themiscyra for a big feast to formally announce their acceptance of the world at large. Last issue, Wonder Woman was attacked by Shim’tar, who considers herself the new queen of the Amazons in Bana-Mighdal (an ancient city hidden inside a mystical sandstorm in the Egyptian desert). A faction led by the rebellious Amazon Faruka wants the Amazons to reclaim their glory and make war against the outside world instead of hiding from it. Their new leader (Nehebka) has brought Diana to their sanctuary because she helped defeat Cheetah and recover their sacred treasure last issue. Diana was sickened by these Amazons’ bloodthirsty ways, but is curious about their artifact, which looks like the same girdle of Gaea that her tribe forged into her magic lasso. It starts in Themiscyra, where Hippolyte leads some other Amazons (including Penelope and Menalippe) on a sacred hunt, where the quarry serves as a sacrifice to Artemis.
