Justice League America 45 coverJustice League America #45 – “Hell on Ice” – Keith Giffen, J.M. DeMatteis/Russell Braun/John Beatty

This one starts with Oberon thinking about leaving the team to spend more time with Mr. Miracle. Max asks him to stay and Oberon says he’ll think about it, but it’s hard to think when he’s surrounded by the usual chaos at the Embassy. Most of it is due to Guy Gardner and Ice arguing over Guy being a tactless asshole.Guy begs Ice for one more chance, saying he’ll do whatever she wants with no complaining and no acting like a dick. She knows she owns his ass nowGuy puppet in ice show and suggests they go to the Ice-Capists (which I’m guessing is meant to represent the Ice Capades, complete with Muppets). Fire can’t figure out why Ice keeps giving Guy more chances, but Ice insists Guy’s asshole persona is a front to hide the sensitive man underneath. Yeah, I think she might be wrong about this one. Guy does manage to hold back his contempt for the ice show, although he has to make a few snotty remarks just to stay true to himself. Naturally, Blue Beetle sees this date as an opportunity to have some fun, so he puppet in Guy's bedconvinces Kilowog to build something and takes it to the show, accompanied by Fire and Kilowog. The “something” turns out to be a giant Guy Gardner puppet that Beetle talks the showrunners into adding to the cast. Of course, Guy is insane with rage, but he actually manages to hold back his temper, which really impresses Ice. When Guy finds the giant puppet in his bed, he loses it and goes after Beetle. Amidst all the screaming and fighting, Oberon decides he’d rather be hanging out with Mr. Miracle and quietly leaves.

Justice League Europe 21 coverJustice League Europe #21 – “Blood, Sweat, and Tabloids” – Keith Giffen, Gerard Jones/Marshall Rogers/Joe Rubinstein

After the Justice League Embassy in Paris imploded last issue, the team has now moved to the London Embassy. Luckily, Beefeater and his family are gone and most of the team heads out to Harrod’s to replace their stuff. Max calls to let Captain Atom know he’s out as team leader, replaced by Catherine Cobert. Catherine worries that he’ll be upset, but he’s actually thrilled not to have the responsibility anymore. That new freedom comes up right away, when Power Girl complains that someone took a photo of her and put it onpage 3 Power Girl Page 3 of a well-known tabloid. (This is a reference to the Daily Sun and their (in)famous topless Page 3 Girls, but don’t get too excited; Power Girl is wearing a bikini in her photo.) Downtown, Wally West has a little trouble buying clothes (and charging them to the JLE account) without any proof that he’s really the Flash, while Metamorpho freaks out a sales clerk who insists on measuring him. Catherine deals with another crisis when a man claims Power Girl’s mangy cat killed his dog … a bull mastiff. In Paris, Inspector Camus finds out he’s been appointed to head a new Meta-Human Task Force … in London. Blue Jay and Silver Sorceress try to connect with Kilowog, while making up to CatherineMitch Wacky decides to go to Florida to check out Disneyworld. Power Girl convinces Captain Atom to get Catherine a gift because he’s been gloating about her replacing him, but when Catherine opens the present Power Girl picked out, it turns out to be lingerie … which really gets her excited. Meanwhile, we see some mysterious men in black discussing how the JLE have moved and they’ll have to go to London and start their operation all over again. These look like the same guys who tried to get Wally Tortolini’s notebook in Justice League 44; they work for someone named Mr. Biggers.
